Stan Sakai

Born in Japan and raised in Hawaii, Stan Sakai majored in drawing and painting and obtained a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii, and furthered his education at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Usagi Studios, and is well-known as the creator of a popular comic book which features the comic book character Usagi Yojimbo, the Japanese samurai white rabbit with a top-knot binding his long ears, a sword, and a blue hapi coat.

Stan may also be well-known to the early Iwa supporters who ran Iwa’s annual Run for the Rock 5K and 10K races and received collectible t-shirts with special designs created by Stan each year. The unique designs always had something identifiably Japanese, Christian, and Iwa about them. This gallery displays some of those designs for the running t-shirts as well as for t-shirts used as thank-you gifts for donors to Iwa.
